Is it Possible to Stop Skin Aging?

To answer this question, it is necessary to understand that skin ageing is a natural biological process influenced by internal (genetic, hormonal and sex-related) and external (UV rays, smoking, stress, pollution and diet) factors. Each organism is an individual and therefore has a different tendency to age prematurely due to the above-mentioned intrinsic factors, while the influence of extrinsic factors leads to faster ageing. Ageing caused by external factors, also known as photo-ageing, is triggered by various environmental factors such as UV radiation, toxins, as well as an unbalanced diet, harmful habits or inappropriate cosmetics. Common signs of biological ageing are fine lines and thinning of the epidermis, due to a slowdown in cell renewal. Photoageing due to prolonged exposure to UV radiation contributes to the appearance of deeper wrinkles, sagging, dehydration and hyperpigmentation.

Although skin ageing is caused by both internal and external factors, the main cause of sagging and loss of elasticity is ageing caused by external factors. According to research, about 90% of the intensity of skin ageing is due to lifestyle. Avoiding stressful situations, prolonged exposure to the sun and maintaining a healthy and balanced diet are essential to keep the skin healthy and youthful for as long as possible. The use of anti-ageing cosmetics is also essential to protect the skin from external environmental factors.

Boosting the Formation of Connective Tissue

Topical application of anti-aging products is necessary for natural graceful aging. It helps to slow extrinsic aging processes and prolongs young-looking skin. A regular skin care routine lifts and strengthens the skin, improves elasticity and smoothness, and stimulates regeneration. In addition, anti-aging face creams prevent the formation of wrinkles by slowing down the degradation of collagen and elastin. Collagen is an essential building block for the whole body, including the skin. Skin care products that stimulate collagen synthesis not only revitalize, but also completely rejuvenate the complexion and combat the signs of aging. Elastin is another protein and is responsible for skin structure and elasticity.

Strengthening the Skin’s Barrier Function

The skin is an essential barrier to protect the body against microorganisms, irritants, and dehydration. It helps to keep natural moisturizing factors and water molecules inside the epidermis, leading to healthy-looking skin. To ensure the strength and integrity of this barrier, anti-aging products should be supplemented with emollients such as jojoba, grape seed oils, which soften and smooth the skin. In addition, anti-aging products enriched with occlusive agents, when applied, form a protective film on the surface of the skin, locking in water molecules. Anti-aging products containing humectants including glycerin, sodium PCA and sodium hyaluronate, retain water molecules in the dermis (the deeper layer of the skin) and in the epidermis (the outer layer), ensuring the firmness and plumpness of the skin.

Delivery of the Antioxidants

Every day, our skin is exposed to UV rays and environmental pollutants, which stimulate the production of unstable atoms called free radicals. n order to become more stable, free radicals take electrons from other nearby atoms. When the molecules in our skin are deprived of atoms, the DNA of our skin is damaged, resulting in wrinkles, lines, dehydration, and the loss of youthful volume. Using skin care products that contain antioxidants is a great way to mitigate the harmful effects of free radicals and help maintain healthy skin.

Encouraging Epidermal Rejuvenation

The normal process of skin cell renewal depends on many factors. The natural biological ageing process slows down the metabolism of epidermal cells, prolongs the cell division cycle, in other words slows down the skin regeneration process. In order to accelerate this process, various bioactive compounds are used to stimulate cell renewal and exfoliate the skin. Hyaluronic acid, which occurs naturally in the skin, is an important component of the intercellular extracellular matrix, responsible for the retention of water molecules, cell differentiation and proliferation. Cosmetic products containing hyaluronic acid of different molecular weights help to ensure skin regeneration.

Preventing Age-Related Hyperpigmentation

As we age, changes are also seen in the skin’s pigmentation. Changes in the concentration of the pigment melanin in the skin occurs. Premature photoaging causes uneven pigmentation and wrinkling due to DNA damage. For this reason, it is important not just to protect the skin from sun by using sunscreen, but also to use creams that contain whitening agents, such as vitamin C and niacinamide, or various marine extracts.
